A.K.RAMAN.
You must have come across many articles regarding positive thinking and its effect on our life. Whenever I think of positive thinking I remember the story I had read somewhere. That story indicates the effort put up by our fore-fathers to plant in our mind the habit of positive thinking. I want to share that story with you all so that you can also benefit from the same.
Once upon a time a man was wandering in a desert on a hot summer day. He was completely exhausted due to heat and wanted to rest somewhere and was searching for a suitable place. Luckily he saw a tree and rushed towards it and stood under it. The shadow of the tree gave him some comfort. His legs were paining but he could not sit on the sand fearing the heat.
“If I manage to get a cot I can sit on the same and massage my aching legs.” He thought within himself. Lo and behold! A cot appeared and he immediately sat on it.
“If this tree moves its branches and start a cool breeze it will rejuvenate my energy.” He longed within himself and a cool breeze started to relieve his exhaustion. This relief made him aware that he had not eaten anything from the morning and he was feeling very hungry.
“Oh! If only somebody serve me a seven course lunch now, it will quench my hunger.” He desired. A sumptuous lunch appeared in front of him and he ate it delightfully. The heavy lunch made him drowsy and he wanted to sleep. He wanted a soft bed on the cot so that he can sleep comfortably on it and found the same on the cot.
“It is a great day and I am getting all I wanted. If my wife come here now and massage my body with her beautiful hand, I will feel as if I am in heaven.” He longed again. Immediately he saw his wife coming towards him at a distance. Suddenly it dawned upon him that his wife could never make it to that place as his house was thousands of miles away. Since it could not be his wife, he surmised that it could only be a ghost. Fear gripped him suddenly. He focused his eyes towards the approaching figure and found a ghost coming towards him. He started to tremble and feared that the ghost would kill him and eat him and so it happened.
In fact, he was lucky enough to find the mythical tree “Kalpatharu” which grants every wish. Till his thoughts were positive he was blessed with desired comfort. His negative thoughts destroyed him. If only he continued to think positively, he would have lived comfortably for ever.
